Measured

Building Survey

4D Surveying is a leading specialist in Measured Building Surveys, delivering reliable nationwide coverage. We produce accurate, high-quality 2D and 3D outputs that give you clarity and confidence in your project from the very start.

What is a Measured Building Survey?

A Measured Building Survey is a detailed and accurate representation of a building’s physical features, structure and layout.

It captures everything from walls, doors, and windows to structural elements, fixtures, and architectural details. Using advanced technologies like 3D laser scanning, 4D Surveying produces precise 2D drawings and 3D models that support design, planning, refurbishment, and asset management.

By delivering a data-rich, precise Measured Building Survey, professionals in architecture, engineering, and construction can visualise and analyse building elements with greater accuracy, enhancing decision-making and improving project outcomes.

Information provided can include:

What We Deliver

Our measured building surveys capture existing conditions in detail, giving you confidence in your decisions and reducing risk at every stage of your project.

Complete floor plans

Detailed drawings displaying the vertical heights, layout, wall positions, room sizes and structural elements.

Elevation drawings

Depict external features such as doors, windows, roofline, building materials, and the structural arrangement.

Three Dimensional models

3D models can provide an immersive, detailed visualisation that captures  intricate architectural features.

Cross
sections

Show a slice of the building highlighting internal and external layouts and key structural details.

Scan
Explorer

Walk through scan stations and see what the scanner saw to gain a better understanding of the spatial arrangement.

How We Operate

We don’t shy away from innovative technology, with terrestrial laser scanning and SLAM scanning playing a hugely important role in what we do.

This is reinforced with drone surveying and an array of other cutting-edge techniques for efficient, accurate data collection. Light detection and ranging (LiDAR)-enabled equipment generates highly detailed point clouds and 3D models which are invaluable for measured building surveys and wider analysis of the built form.

The terrestrial laser scanners we deploy rapidly gather data. The scanner emits millions of laser beams which gather the measurements of a building. The information can then be used to create a 3D representation of the scanned area in the form of a point cloud.

Our approach guarantees:

Precise Information:

We gather millions of data points to create highly accurate 3D models.

Safe Data Collection:

Laser Scanners, Drones and Robotic Total Stations can operate in restricted areas, such as listed properties or in dangerous conditions where other surveyors may fail to access due to the remote or dangerous nature of their operations.

Versatile Applications:

We perform surveys for private and commercial clients, undertaking projects across all sectors and of all sizes

Clarity Providing Results:

Laser scanners collect vast quantities of data that can give the whole picture of a structure or building. This gives clarity to management, planning and project decision making.

Integrated Services

Our integrated surveying services combine multiple survey disciplines to provide a complete, accurate picture of your site. By bringing topographic, drone, and measured building surveys together, we deliver consistent data that supports efficient planning, design, and development.

Who We Support

We work across a wide range of sectors and project types, undertaking surveys for commercial premises, industrial facilities, public buildings and residential developments.

Industrial

From food factories to chemical plants, we provide accurate data collection in challenging environments with minimal disruption to operations.

Construction

We work alongside developers and project managers to provide detailed data on existing structures to improve decision-making.

Heritage conservation

Detailed measured building surveys of historical buildings record their distinctive features and play an important part in their preservation and conservation.

Commercial projects

We’ve worked extensively with the hospitality industry and retail sector to assist in renovations, property sales and legal compliance.

Home owners
